I was wondering if any of you guys have tried using .32 cal pistol bullets in a .303 case. I got looking through my reloading manual and saw that most of the ones were .312 diameter. I thought it would be a great load for tin cans and gophers out to about 50 yards. Are the bullets long enough to stabilize or would I be patterning instead of grouping? Thanks for the input in advance.

Regards,

Nick

.... 'Definitely an interesting, if nothing else, idea ! Ages ago, I seem to remember something about really reduced, which I think is what you'd be shooting, loads, causing weird pressure curves, and peak pressures potentially being hazardous to one's health. I think it was to do with the case not being full, and the powder lying horizontally. 'Wish I could remember more, but maybe someone else will correct, or add further information ! .... David K.

As for the case not being full, I'm sure a filler could be used. Or maybe some sort of ultra-bulky propellant like Trail Boss. I just really like the idea of whacking a gopher with a 100gr XTP

I doubt if you'd have a problem - there have been tons of cast bullets, many of them of light weight shot from 303's and similar cartridges ahead of light charges of pistol powder. It's been my experience that fillers are counter productive. You have nothing to fear from a light charge of fast powder laying on the bottom side of the case. Just choose a proper charge and be extremely careful not to double it.

Good luck.

Try 12 gr of Unique with the 71 gr FMJ 32 cal pistol bullets. OAL 2.530.
These will not feed from your magizine so you will have to load them one at a time. They work great out to 50 yrds with the accuracy dropping off significantly at 75 yrds. Your point of impact on your Enfeild will not need to be adjusted. where your sights are set at 100 yrs will be dead on at 25 yrds.
Great way for Kids to shoot the big rifle without the recoil or the loud scary noise.

i think a cast bullet with around 18 grs of 4759 would be more accurate and good out to past 100yds. with low recoil....bullets cast hard around 180 to 205 grs. will be more accurate!!!

I'm looking for something that'll deliver the goods right around fifty yards. I don't cast bullets so that'll rule out the 200gr. I'm thinking that maybe a 70-100gr bullet at about 1200 fps would work good

Even buying .312" cast bullets would be cost effective and more accurate then short pistol bullets!!M.T. Chambers Supply lists an 85gr. Rn at .312 and a 206 gr. sp. gc. at .312"

M.T. Chambers is in Prince Albert Sask., bullets avail. direct or from Wholesale Sports, Saskatoon Gun Shoppe, Williams Arms, etc.
