325gr FTX 45/70 loads

Went to the range today with my beautiful wife and my Ruger #1 to try out my 325 gr FTX 45/70. I loaded 50 grains of IMR 4198. The chronograph said a muzzle velocity of 2256 fps. Everything seemed to be alright. Accuracy apears to be good with 4 rounds going through two holes about 1/4 of an inch apart. Has anyone tried anything hotter and if so what were your results?

Seems a little fast. I keep my No 3 around 2050.

Hornady FTX

I've shot work ups in my 45/70 Marlin from 44.0gn - 47.9gn in H4198. Unbelievable results. I don't know what the exact FPS is but at 46gn they start to touch at 47.0gn I have a clean pass through. I can't wait to load that powder weight. Unfortunatley I have so much 350gners ready to go I have to wait. Good shooting.
