32mm or 40mm scope for CZ452?

I'm set on getting a CZ452 Standard .22lr, and am trying to figure out if I should get a 3X9-40mm or 3X9-32mm scope.

I'm familiar with the 40mm, but am wondering if it's overkill and won't give me that much "extra" over the 32mm.

I've been advised to select high rings, so both should fit and clear the rear sights ok.
 
Its personnal preference. If you are going to be using the gun in areas of low light (hunting in the bush) or other purposes like that the 40mm bell which lets in more like would likely be a better choice. I wouldn't really let the diameter of the bell change your scope decision though. A smaller diameter bell can be made up by better LT (light transmission). For example, a 3200 scope, which has a light transmission of about 85% might be brigher than a Bushnell banner scope with only (75% but thats a complete guess).
 
Light transmission on most optics runs in the 80% and up category. Any change in the LT is usually something your eye cannot detect. I recommend getting the 40mm Obj. Keep in mind you want to achieve your best possible exit pupil. The best exit pupil is 3.5mm. This value is achieved by dividing your obj. lens diameter by your maximum power setting. For the 3-9x40 you end up with an exit pupil of 4.4mm. The 32mm obj. achieves an exit pupil of 3.5. That being the case, exit pupil is of no real concern. However, the 40mm will provide for a greater field of view which is an advantage.

There is a new bushnell banner scope, which I bought for a .22, that works really well. It has a 3.5-10 power with a 36mm adjustable objective. Also the
verticle adjustment has a bullet drop compensator. On the box it sugests that it was designed for the .17 cal. rimfires but works great for .22s.

If you Get a 40mm make sure it is adjustable objective. I tried going with a straight 39x40 legend on one of my 22's and it didn't shoot all that well. I then replaced it with a Trophy with AO and it shoots great at the 50 meter mark, and over all more accurate.
I just put a couple of cheap rimfire scopes on two Rem 66 nylons and for the $50.00 each a very worth while investment as they are easier for everyone in the family to be some what accurate with. FS
 
OTOH, if a 40mm sits too high (and many scopes sit high on CZ452 models with open sights), then your head will be off the stock and your accuracy will suffer.
 
A 40mm obj. optic will not sit too high on a cz452. I have a 42mm optic on mine and a buddy has an elite 3200 on his. Both sit very low to the bore.

If its a CZ452 Standard (or Lux for that matter) higher is better, to clear the fixed rear site base. I was running a 6x22-42 on mine, but then went to a Brooks peep site insert.
