I remember him wondering just where the heck he got it, as he doesn't remember ever having an '86 in .33

Your da isn't getting senile if he can't remember where he got stuff. It's a normal thing when you've been doing anything for sometime. People give you stuff for no apparent reason. I have stuff I have no idea what it is, never mind where I got it.
