Anyone know if someone is reaming chambers for a .375Ruger necked down to .338 cal? I have a friend who is interested in messing with the .375 Ruger necked down. He would have to have a barrel made and chambered, have the bolt face of his Ruger .30-06 opend up to 0.532" (I think that is the measurement), and the whole rig spun up and lapped or something. I believe that RCBS will make dies. Anyone know for sure or not? Cost?

Maybe he should just buy a .338 RCM. Its a .338 based on the .375 Ruger, Shorter mind you.

I believe Ellwood Epps has the rifle in stock. . I know, I know he wants to build a wildcat....then so be it.

Its being done in the US, but the performance gain is nil over the 340 Weatherby, and practically identical to the .330 Dakota. Seems like a lot of work and cost to come to the same conclusion. If he wants more velocity than a .338WM, sell the Ruger and get a .338 RUM, or the weatherby and save $1500.:)

check here for more info: http://www.24hourcampfire.com/index.html

ON the RCM, I don't think Hornady is selling brass yet, only factory ammo....

The first thing I woudl do is check out Rick Bins article on 24hr campfire, and then compare it to a 338 Winchester Magnum, and decide if the added velocity is worth the hassle.

He's running the 225 TSX at 2800-2900 fps, which is 100 fps more than the Win Mag, but less than the Weatherby and the Ultra Mag.

The Ruger Hawkeye in .338 WM can be had for ~$650, put the extra $$ into a quality stock and high end optics.;)

I don't think that the RCM will hold a candle when compared to the potential of the .375 necked down to .338. I don't think that it is the cost difference that he is worried about. He wanted to 'play' with that case and build something fun.
