Are both of these cartridges have the same action length? Can a 338 Win. Mag. action be re-barrel to a 375 H&H?

Both have .532" bolt face. If you have a rifle (like M1917) in 338 Win Mag (3.340"), then it can be re-done to 375 H&H (3.600"). I have one in 300 Weatherby Mag (3.560"). I have a push feed Win 70 in 375H&H - all the internal mag box, bolt stop, etc. different, but I think the action and bolt is actually same length as the Win 70 308 and 30-06 - pretty certain I had read that Winchester only made one length of action until their "short action" came out a few years ago. I don't know about Rem 700 actions. Typically / traditionally, the 338 Win Mag went into "30-06" length actions (3.4"); whereas 375 H&H went into longer "magnum length" actions (3.6"), although many Mauser 98's had been altered and chambered for 375 H&H.

The long action 700 magnums have long magazine boxes that will handle the 375 H&H just fine...

I should of been more specific in my question: Are the action lengths (magazine and exit-port) on the Sako L61R chambered in the 338 Win. Mag.and 375 H&H Mag. the same? Thanks!

There is an L61R "Finnbear" in 375 H&H on Rock Island Auctions website right now - first bit of text reads: "Produced by a gunsmith named "EVANS" (not positively identified) using a Sako Magnum Finnbear receiver and a 375 H&H magnum barrel."

Your exact question was asked and answered here: just fix the link: ht tps://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/6168236/sako-l61r-338-win-to-375-h-h

I choose not to go through the USA, much easier to purchase in Canada. Oh, I have been searching for the L61R Finnbear for sometime, and narrowed it down to two. One is chambered for the 338 WM and the other 375 H&H. I just want to know if the receivers are identical, in-case I wish to rebarrel the 338WM to a longer cartridge. Many thanks for your input!

Sako has, and in this case had, several action lengths, the AV being the largest. The receivers, in your case would be identical, as far as function is concerned. The tang lengths changed in later production, but that is only an issue if changing stocks.
