338 Berger hybrids?

When these highly anticipated bullets were released, it was discovered that the noses slumped at higher velocities. Berger stopped production, and went back to the drawing board.

We have 250 on order already, I was just checking around for a few to bridge the gap till berger finishes testing and starts producing. If berger starts to fill orders drop me a line and I will do a few more. I'm down to my last two rounds and im watching them like they are the golden child.

Its too bad they stopped production as lots of guys over on longrangehunting seem to like them as well. I can push them to 2930fps before I get the nose slump issue, and thats plenty good for a 300gr bullet from an edge. My rifle seems to like them a bit more than the 300 matchking. I have been staying around .3 moa with the bergers and .4-.5 with the matchkings.

If anyone hears of any in stock drop me a line.

Grab them while you can. It could be a while before Berger releases the new ones.

Accuracy was always reported as good. Just didn't like going fast.

Hornady has just released a 285gr BTHP. It did very well in the US last season setting a LR BR record.

The first batch sold out in 2 days and I have not heard any feedback either way - odds are it is too cold to play.

I am getting some more (hopefully) in the couple of weeks.

Let me know...

Hey longbomber sorry to change the topic but what combo are you using to get 2930 out of your gun I have a edge ai and my buddys has a edge , if we push for anymore then 2830 - 50 the brass fails fairly quick. by the way we are shooting the smk not berger thanks

I get great results with them. I singe load as well, my COAL is very long with the bergers, even an extended Wyatt magazine box is too short for my loads. I actually single load everything for this rifle. I may do a single feed follower and swap out the stock to a solid bottom.

I have tried using 250gr accubonds and some TSX, but the tips get crushed under recoil. The accubond tips get knocked off, and the tsx get deformed. I guess the problem is likely the factory rem internal box, it could use a rolled edge to hold the case shoulder back, but since I am used to single loading anyway..

What COAL are you loading to with the Bergers?

Thanks

Last I had heard there was a "problem" with these bullets and that
they had been recalled? Was wondering if they would be back on the
market at all, or soon....?? Would love to order some

Patiently waiting

Hi Brett,
Not sure where you heard they were recalled there was mistake in the BC but all the reports that I have received back have been very positive accuracy wise and terminal performance has been excellent. We are our of them and they will be put back in the schedule for an other run.

If we can be of any additional help feel free to contact us.

I run mine at roughly 3.995" COAL, the ogive to tip length varies 0.003" or so. The hybrids have a pretty long tip, they look like a little missile.

I was on with Eric Stecker a few weeks (month?) back on Longrangehunting, and they were in the testing stages for a revised hybrid bullet, but he has not responded since. They were still not sure if they had nose slump problems, or exactly what the problem was. I run into the problems at 94gr of H1000, but they have no issues at 92gr and under in my rifle (edge AI). Shooting at 300 yards the 94gr load ended up hitting 3" low with a 4" wide group. I had no pressure signs at 94 but I must be nearing a max pressure load anyways.

The original BC was high and was only "estimated" by shape, 0.891-G1 and 0.455 - G7. The revised BC is 0.419-G7, I can't remember what the "new" G1 is. 0.419 works for me out to 1200yards, the furthest I have tried.

I posted these before when I first got the rifle, here is the 91 and 92gr 3 shot groups - 300m

And a 10 shot group at 300m I shot yesterday, I settled on 91.5gr. The OSB backboard flakes and ruins the targets, but it is a 10 shot.

I bought a used ATRS 338edge AI and spend the price difference in ammo.. it looks like all the rest they sell, black mcm A-5, 30" rock creek barrel, ATRS gill brake. I am getting 2930fps with the hybrids.
