Hi Guys,

I was just reading about the newly released .338 Federal cartridge in the March 2006 issue of shooting times...

I wonder if Browning will see fit to chamber their short action BLR for this? This seems to me like a "match made in heaven..." :)

What are your thoughts, my esteemed shooting brethren?

Jeff/1911.

What about the .300 WSM?

Hey, does anyone here own a new style "lightweight" BLR in .300 WSM? If so, how does it handle? Is it a hard kicker? I would assume so.

Thanks, Jeff.

Sako collaberated with Federal in the development of the .338Federal. I think it s safe to assume that Sako and Tikka are going to be the first factory rifles that you see in this chambering.
How about a Tikka Battue Lite in .338 Fed... wouldn't that be sweet.

the fed cartridge has been around for a while. 08 /338 wildcat. i would doubt its much better than the 358. but that wouldn't stop me wanting one. i believe its just a necked up 308. easy to load for.

No doubt will be a fine cartridge and I think it will be around awhile. I think it will also be like the other stepchildren .260 rem,7-08,and .358 win, great cartridges, just not Federal classic Canadian Tire popular. And yeah, one in a laminate stainless BLR would be real nice.

Browning will not chamber a BLR in .338 Federal, they want you to buy the .325 WSM.
Which is the same as Remington refusing to chamber for the 358Win cuz they want you to buy the 350RemMag instead.

I had a 338-08 built 10 years ago, after shooting one that a buddy had. Fantastic cartridge. It will do anything the 358 will do and I don't really believe that there's any difference between the two. just like the 338-06 and the 35 Whelan. Surpriseingly there is hardly any difference in trajectories with any given bullet weight up to 225grns. The beauty of it is that it fits very nicely into a short action. I would like to see this thing fly, but I won't hold my breath, mainly because there are to many other offerings that approximate or better its performance in similar weight packages and are available readily off the shelf at most gunshops. bearhunter

Browning has not yet chambered the 260 Remington in the BLR, so I do not see the 338 Federal coming any time soon. Don't get me wrong any offspring of the 308 will be a good cartridge. If there is a Browning rep on the board give the 260 and 338 a try, build a small production run and see if they sell. You did it with the stainless laminated stock and that got some attention.
