I see that P&D has the Tikka T3 lite listed chambered in .338 Federal now...finally, a more reasonably priced platform for this cartridge!

May be the perfect excuse to try a Tikka. ;)

Is the Factory Ammo available too.
Remember the 325WSM fiasco, lots of rifles available but ammo took some 4 to 6 months longer to get here.

I've seen the Factory ammo at a couple of area gunshops here. Should be available anywhere Federal ammo is sold, other than CT. I don't think you'll ever see any cheap loads from Federal, just the Premium, high cost for range shooting, definetly cheaper to handload.

Be tough to make from 35 Rem, I think you'll have better luck with 358 Win. - dan

The cartridge is a short action design obviously but IIRC Tikka does not make a short action rifle. The 338 Federal would come in a 30-06 length action.

yes, and that begs the question, why would you want to screw around with the .338 fed in a tikka then? when the action is already long enough for a .338-06, wich will handle heavier bullets FAR better.

run the numbers on a 225 Innerbond @ 2650 and you'll see why the .338-06 makes more sense :p

not much killing a guy cant do with a 210 grain Partition @ 2650 :) or a 185 TSX @ 2750.

One good thing about the 338 Federal is it has a good selection of factory ammo. 200 grain Fusion for cheaper ammo, 180 Accubonds, 185 TSX, 210 Nosler...:dancingbanana:

Who is putting out factory rifles in 338-06?
