338 Federal scope

I've been kicking around what scope to put on my new 338 Federal. I'm not overly concerned on the budget. What are you thoughts or what are you running. These are some I've been thinking about but not locked on.

Vx1 3-9x40 or 4-12x40
Elite 3500 3-9x40
Swarovski z3

The gun should be good for 300-400 maybe pushing 500 yards. I'm open to suggestion.
 
Very cool caliber. What rifle? I have a number of medium bore rifles. For example, my custom Remington 798 .350 Remington Magnum has a Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 1.75-5x32mm scope -

I think something simple and low-to-medium power is sufficient. The usual suspects for me would include Leupold VX-3, Zeiss Conquest, Swaro Z3.

I run a sightron big sky 6x. fits my fed well and I don't feel limited at all. most of my varatables I never turn above 5x 0r 6x anyway. my whelen has a leup fx 6x as well and my 338 06 a 2.5x8.
 
Ok. I guess I'm on the right paths when you guys are using a normal reticle what range are you sighting the gun in for and I guess you do rough hold over at longer ranges?
 
I sight my fed and 338 06 three inches high at 100 with 200 grain bullets. works well for me. I don't like fancy reticles for hunting just a plain duplex.
 
Well after going back and forth a million times a swarovski z3 4-12x50 BRH won out. It should be ideal on a sako 85 stainless laminate.
