I've looked at the info on this cartridge and I think it's a great idea; in some ways a reinvention of the .358, but carrying a lot of good attributes for people who want something practical, efficient, and a bit different. I find the .35 Whelen punches me a bit harder than I like, though it's not horrific. I've never fired a .338-06, but I think this is me making an apples-oranges comparison. This .338-08 should be able to stand on its own as a practical, moderate recoil, medium range cartridge. 'Course, those practical attributes don't always spell success. How do you all feel this round looks on paper?

338/08

My buddy has had one for about four years and he seems to really like it. His is a rebarreled Sako Finnlight and he has taken deer and bears with it. The 338/08 is nothing original or new but its effective. I am pretty sure he loads 185 grain Barnes bullets I believe and he gets decent speed in a light compact little gun. I kinda never understood it because if you want a .338 don't you want to go with heavier bullets? I am not stuck on having a short action so I personally think I would go with a 338/06 or 35 Whelen but thats just my 2 cents.

Exaxctly. if you you want to shoot a 180gr bullet out of a .308 case. why not shoot a .30cal? Better SD & BC. this has been a wildcat with very limited popularity for some time. why federal would bring it out as a factory cartidge I'll never know. More reinventing the wheel & marking. Kinda like Lever-revolution bullets and short mags.....

meh.
