Wholesale sports has rifles for sale in Tikka and Ruger, but i cant find any source for factory ammo, dies or reloading data.

Federals site has the ballistics for three bullets, and they seem close to 338/06. Is there any more info out there? Thanks in advance. Mike

the alliant reloading site has data for reloading but the veocitys arn't impressive. i think reloaders will have a hard time beating factory ammo if the factory velocity is accurate.

Yet another hipped up factory load by an ammunition maker. We've done quite well for a bizzilion years without it. In my opinion, only a lever gun would benefit from it....maybe. As far as bolt guns go, many other choices.

i think in the end it will be no better than the 358win. which is a very fine cartridge, i'm not sure we need two of them. in real world the 338 06 will outdo the 338 federal but the marketing will sell lots of 338 federal.

I think it is great... a factory legitimate 338-08! Whats the problem with a light, low recoil medium bore that shoots a 210 at 2600fps.
I think that hunters that don't reload will be all over it like a fat kid on a smartie.
New is good... old is not new... Jedi mind trick....

Old is proven, not hyped up. :D

Most shops that carry Federal ammo will have it, they do around here.

The only advantage that the .338 Federal has over the .338-06 is that nobody is chambering the 06 in factory rifles, yet;). Weatherby did, and now they don't.

How does a cartridge benefit only from one action type? The Ruger Frontier in 338 Federal would be an AWESOME elk or moose rig. Compact size for hunting close cover, but with the ability to reach out to 300 yards if you stillhunt into a meadow. A BLR would do almost as well, if you hunted young deer east of Manitoba.

I really like the 338 Federal. Looks like the 260 Remingtons thug brotha

I almost missed the thinly disguised yet blatantly Bartellesque reference to the east.
With regard to the BLR being useful east of Manitoba I cannot dissagree. In the western provinces a lever action would be completely useless... when road hunting and shooting out the window of the truck it would break the drivers mirror when you lever the action.:D

yes keep your levers. they make more noise then a bolt anyways. nothing the deer out east will notice over the sound of the nearby highway or the curning of the feeder throwning corn :dancingbanana: :D
