Hey guys

I have a savage 110ba in .338 lapua. I’m looking for help on making a decision on a nightforce scope. It’s between 5.5-22x56 or the 8-32x56 with MOAR-T reticle. I am going to be strict target shooting at long ranges. With known target sizes and distances. I always think more magnification is better. However i’m learning the 8-32 less elevation.

32 power isn’t nessasary, 22 power will get you as far as this gun can shoot. But it is nice to have extra mag if you want. If you are really looking to push this cartridge to the limits, The 32x has 17 mil of elevation, the 22x has 27. 17 will get you wayyy out there but it can be difficult to get the pefect cant on you scope to get the full range, and some scopes can start to loose tracking accuracy once you get to close to the outer limits of the internals of the scope. I’d go with the 22x with a 20moa/6mil rail or base, that will give you 19.5 mills (ish) of adjustment, that will be over a mile.

Being able to adjust your elevation > seeing the tiny target a little less tiny

So a 338 will still need that much elevation

This should probably be a question that you should be able to answer yourself if you're looking to push this calibre to it's limits, prior to dropping thousands on gear. Do some work with a ballistic app to determine how much elevation you'll need for the ranges you intend to shoot and let that determine what gear you go with. If you don't plan to shoot it at its limits you can probably get away with less elevation adjustment if magnification is your thing.
