Im loading for a m700 338LM. Got 250gr Accubonds and H1000, RL25. Lapua brass and F215m

am I on the right track?

Just out of curiosity what are you considering your effective range and ideal muzzle velocity.

I am currently running 300gr SMK with 92gr H1000 M.V. 2700fps for my bench/rested rifle.

I haven't decided on a bullet choice for my hunting rifle yet.

not my rifle, and it is rebarreled anyways

will try some H1000 ladder loads on Monday, 90.0 grs to 94.0 (Nosler data)

thanks guys

H-1000 is ideal in my Edge (with near single digit velocity variation), but as Toomany said there is a significant cost in velocity you will have to live with.
I don't really think whether a 300 smk is going 2700 or 2850fps is all that important, but each to his own.

I loaded up 225's with H1000. Backed down to 96gr to keep it easier on the brass and it shoots very well. Luckily this barrel is a fast barrel so the velocity is high for the charge weight. Velocity increased incrementally just as charge increased so this powder is burning well for the 225's.

Sorry TB I missed the 250 Accubond thing.

You might consider the 225AB.
The 225 offers significantly higher velocity than the 250 yet the BCs are fairly close. What that means is the 250 doesn't make sense until well beyond normal long range hunting distances.
Run the numbers and you will see what I'm getting at.

Given the hunting bullets currently on the market I don't believe the 225AB can be bettered.
Even considering the 265TTSX (BC .575)the 225 will still outperform it ballisticly.

I can't imagine anything better than RL-25 for that light bullet application.

Accubond Issue

When I was running a 338 Lapua I used 96grs of Retumbo. This moved a 225 gr accubond out @ 3100 fps out of a 26" barrel. I used this as a hunting rifle one year. I shot an elk @ 450 yds and a moose @ 70 yds. Both animals were hit in the chest cavity, elk broadside and the moose straight on. Niether bullet exited the chest. Killed them dead right there but didn't exit the chest. My theory is that the 338 accubonds were built for the 338 win mag at a slower speed and are acting like a ballistic tip from the lapua. So I quit using accubonds and am running Barnes as my only hunting bullet now. This is just my experience, and maybe the accubonds have improved but I won't use them again. Don.

I have a partial box of 225 Accubonds in .338 Dont shoot well in my test rifle and as such, they are on the block. 9 rounds used so its almost a full box.

Any takers???

FWIW I've had .375 270gr TSX stay in the chest cavity of elk sized moose.
I too like complete penetration, but at some point dead is dead.

I would advise stepping out of the "hunting bullet box" and trying a 300 gr SMK.
This bullet flies well and works very well on large game animals.

If possible, take it up to 3000 fps MV
