Keeping mind this duo is for long range shots, shooting alone without the help of a spotter...
Pros & cons of both please i.e. range, price, velocity, availability etc..

For a start price out components to compare:eek:
Next question to ask is what caliber your home range in templated for, if you plan to shoot at a range.:bangHead:

The 300 win mag will do a 1000 meters. the 300 is capable of taking anything we have to hunt in North america. Unless it is an I want item, you like recoil, if it has a muzzle break buy good ear protection. IMHO unless you are shooting long distance and reload your own ammo. It is pricey to shoot. Not that i wouldn't like to have one myself.

7mm WSM, or smaller. If you're spotting your own shots, smaller is better. The 7mm WSM is being discovered as a real killer 1k cartridge, and I believe it holds the current record. I'd also think long and hard about a 308 or better still a 7mm08 or 260, they'll all do 1k with a minumum of fuss

And while the 6.5-284 is good, IMHO the 284 alone is better - lobbing a 160-ish grain high BC bullet up in the .600 range at 2700fps or so would be just the ticket. And barrel life ought to be a lot better than the 6.5-284

I believe that barrel change is at approx 1000rds since the round is always a hot load. :(
284 shooting 160 AMAX at 2700 isn't all that hot, max is around 2800 for the 284

IMHO, and from what I have heard/read.

the .338 is very good for 1 km.
the .300 is almost just as good.
the .308 is acceptable for most applications at 1 km

I personally would go with the .308 for cost, availability, and a wide selection of ammo.
If I can't afford trigger time on my rifle, what good is it?

This is just my opinion based on my situation and observations.
Your mileage may vary.

I actually moved towards the 338 WM. More so it packs the punch at 1km, but at the same time I don't think I'll ever shoot at anything more then a 100 yrds. Haven't yet :) For target , I have looked at the 338LM and it is an impressive cartridge

You require a poll to figure this out?
