Would like some advice on powder choice for 338 Lapua. H1000 and Retumbo are about as common as unicorns these days at least on the east coast. I looked thru my manuals and see choices include Viht N170, IMR7828, H4831. planning to load 300gr for a 1:10 twist barrel

any advice/opinions much appreciated

Can always always find 7828 it seems.

However , your Hogdgon products do seem to perform better in my opinion, temp stable , and nice velocities. I settled on Retumbo.

I have wanted to try 50BMG as it always seems available but wound up having a nice load with Retumbo and never bothered.

Every time I see slow burners I buy , typically can only get 2lbs at a time.

My preference is Retumbo. Am getting 2846fps with the 300gr SMK.

I've tried H1000
N165
RL25

Bullet preference is the Sierra 300gr MK. The 250's were good.
Hornady's 250's and 225's were just OK.

I tried Retumbo in 2 seperate 338 LM's with 300gr Hybrids. The results were slightly higher velocities, but accuracy suffered when compared to H-1000. For now, I've gone with a load of H-1000, but I would like to try VN170 if I can get my hands on some.
