Ross from PGW put together a 338LM for me and I finally got around to loading up some rounds for it and testing the rig at the range.

Here are the specs
Remington 700
A2 McMillan stock
Pac Nor 31.5 in barrel
Tactical break
Harris Bipod
NXS 5.5-22x56
338 LM

Here is what it looks like

and here is what it shoots like

that's a 5 shot group at 200m measureing .42 inches center to center.

Load was:
300gr SMK
94gr Retumbo
Federal 215M primers
Lapua brass
3.87 COL
3050 fps avg

I'm very happy to say the least. It kicks like a 243 and is very pleasant to shoot. My wife shot it and said it's a sweet heart :)

Cheers

Uh oh, I see a change in my TRG-S coming up  Maybe I need to have some changes and upgrades done to my rifle. Beautiful piece and and incredible shooting Kman 8) :D 8)

I would like to hear what modifications had to made to fit the .338 LM into a humble M700.

At first blush, it doesn't seem like an ideal pairing.

Obviously, it works great as the gun shoots like a house a fire! Congratulations!!

So the photo is from before you bought it....?

but you made the holes in the target.

Or is there snow there already?

Artistic licence?

The rifle picture is from last april or so when I got the gun. I posted it last year on the tactical thread of the pictures forum. I didn't bother taking another picture of the rifle today when I was at the range. The picture of the target is from the group I shot today.

Are you ####ting me private Pyle!!? I'm only getting 2800fps out of my 26" barrel. Now I'm definitely thinking about a longer one for the rebarrel!

I've gotten several PM's asking questions about this rig. I'll try and post the details I can on the thread to my PM box won't fill up :p

I bought a new Remington Stainless/Laminate stock 300 RUM. I sold the barrel and stock to fellow CGNers and that action was used for the project. It's a Pac Nor super match grade barrel 31.5 inches long and 1 inch diameter at the muzzle.
All I gave them parts wise was the action, a Badger 20 MOA base and a NSX 5.5-22x56. They got the barrel, A2 Mcmillan stock, did the pillar bedding, 700 bolt work (open the bolt face and put a sako extractor on), trigger work, trued the action, put the tactical break on, installed a Harris s-brm bi pod and put the base, rings and scope on. It's single shot and since I load them to 3.87 I have to take the bolt out if I decide to take a loaded round out. I havn't weight the rig but I'd say around 20 pounds (feels like a C-6 :p). Not something for walking round with all day but that's not what it's built for.

I hope this answers some questions

Cheers
