338 Marlin Express

I have heard ammo is hard to find and not a very popular round yet. I have just read on leverguns that the 450 Marlin rifle has been discontinued and Hornady no longer makes the ammo. I hope this doesn't happen to the 308 and 338 marlin. If you have one better find ammo or empty cases just in case. They might go the way of the 307/356 winchester if popularity doesn't pick up. I have a 356 and enough brass to last me 2 lifetimes so I'm not worried.

A friend has one and had a moose tag but he didn't shoot one. I told him if he had he might of been the first person in Canada to kill anything with that case. He managed to get 3 boxes of loaded shells and a box of 50 brass.

I do reload. I guess I had better stock up on averything I can get my hands on before this awesome lever cartridge goes obsolete.

Basspro in Vaughn now has .338ME ammo in stock, so I imagine Epps and most other larger shops will as well. I seriously considered buying one, picked up an 1895 instead. If they are still around in 5 or 10 years I will definitely buy one.

"...450 Marlin rifle has been discontinued and Hornady no longer makes the ammo..." Still listed on Hornady's site. So is the .338 Marlin. Kind of silly to make the .450 on a belted case.
"...hope they at least keep making brass..." Not likely. When cartridges get dropped by the marketing types, it's completely dropped with no regard for their old customers. When you buy any new cartridge, buy as much brass as you can, dies and a shell holder(unless the cartridge uses one in common with an older cartridge) too. Even if you don't reload.
