So I recently built a 358 Norma off a Savage action, Stainless Shilen heavy sporter 24 inch barrel and boyds laminate stock. Haven't picked it up from the smith yet who is bedding it. What I am wondering about is forming 358 Norma Brass from 338 Win mag brass. So my question is do I have to fire-form the 338 brass after I have ran it through my 358 Norma die before I fire full loads or can I just load and go as many online would suggest. I have loaded full loads with 30-06 brass upsized to 35 Whelen without fireforming and have had good success. The Nosler website recommends loading 2 grains of 4350 under minimum loaded out to the lands when referring to the 358 STA but don't suggest a similar approach with the 358 Norma Mag.... I would like the opinion of the wise reloaders on this sight before I complete my first handloads for my new rifle:) Thanks ahead of time.

From what I have read you can resize 338WM to 358NM and load and go. Neck will be a tad shorter when using 338WM brass but shouldn't have any noticeable effect. Start at minimum loads for the 358NM and work up of course.
Just got my custom 358NM from Corlanes in BC. Donor rifle was a CZ 550 in 7mm Rem Mag. Going to go through the "barrel break in ceremony" this weekend. Whoohoo!

You can easily reform .338 Win to .358 NM. Load it to min safe load datas and shoot it. Then work up you loads and it's done.

As for the .308 NM, once your load is set, you can load it and shoot to reform the .338 Win.

Thanks for the replies guys. That 8lbs of H4895 from the last Wholesale Sports Sale will come in handy;)
That new build sounds amazing 8x68!
Good luck!!
