338 wm questions

I like the 225 Accubonds myself. I have used them on a couple of moose and several bears and they work great. I like the price as well! I use IMR 4831 usually with my .338 Win Mag's also. My current .338 is a Ruger #1 and I will be using the 225 Accubonds this spring again.

I use the same load with H4831, I also find the 225 partition is very accurate also and uses the same amount of powder. I get 2950fps with the partition with 78gr H4831, the throat on my rifle has been opened so max!!! usually is 74gr.
 
Lately I've been experimenting with 225gr bonded bullets over 4831SC. A More traditional choice would be a 250gr RN. Either will work I'd assume.
 
My load is similar to Dan's... a 210 Nosler Partition over RL 19. I've found that RL 19 gives good velocity and accuracy with quite a few different 338 bullet weights.

The best load is the one that gives tight groups at reasonable velocities, using a proven bullet, in YOUR rifle. What works in somebody else's rifle may not do well in yours.
 
Tight groups isn't really a requirement in a hunting rifle, and is certainly secondary to bullet design, and trajectory. Most bullets are capable of 2" groups, which is just fine.
 
As a dedicated moose/elk rifle go with the 250 grain Nosler Partition, either the "regular" version or the Partition Gold Moly-free.
 
My current hunting load is a 225gr. Accubond 72gr. IMR4350, winWLR primer. Works great on elk and moose, bang-flop as they say. Accubonds vs elk and moose.
