how fast are people shooting 300gr smks out of there 338lm?

how far are people shooting them and what group size ?

3050 to 3095 fps from our 338 Lapua AIs, 4" groups at 1000 yards is not uncommon.
We have shot this caliber out to 2400 mtrs at Summerland this spring consistantly hitting a 24" rock, no idea what group size would be on that, too hard to get to the rock.
The AIed version is simply 338 lapua blown out to minmal taper and a 40 degree shoulder. The standard SAAMI chambering seems to be running 300 SMKs out the muzzle at 2825 to 2875 FPS, with a 30" tube
Velocity will be dictated to a large degree by your barrel length. We have found longer barrels and very slow burning powders are the key to getting all the potential from this caliber.

well.

2950 or so........ havent really tryed to hard to check groupings,

.557 at 327 yrds, depopul8r was there, shot a 4 inch group outa the back of my pickup off of my jacket at the farm at 550 yrds.

And ya... its an ATR LAI.... Im down a bit on powder though, im at 110.0 gr of 869......:sniper:

Thats exactly what I'm burning in mine and its awesome !
It reaches coyotes like nothing I've ever had before and the accuracy is better than I would ever have believed.....reloading for it is ridiculously simple.
Without a doubt the best rifle in my gun room...:D:D:D

Last weekend we were out shooting the Lapuas and at 1071yds on three seperate two shot strings, my bullets drilled through 3/8" steel and were 2.250ish apart center to center. I can measure it will a caliper if necessary because we won't be welding those holes up any time soon. The only reason I didn't shoot a 3 shot group was because I had no idea they were that close to each other until I got down there to look. I was correcting to hit a painted spot and the second shot was only to confirm correction. I'm still playing with load developement on the 250gr SMKs but I'm driving them with 117gr of US869 right now and still not getting any real pressure. Hands down, best long range gun I'll ever own.

hehehe
