35-284 win??

I hope this is the proper forum. I want to resize 284 win brass to 35/284. I have an 358 expander die but it crushes the case mouth. Do i need a tapered one and who has these available?? In Canada? Thanks JITC

You might want to go in steps. Say 284 to 308 to 358 your cases may also need to be annealed.

I would go .284-.308, anneal and then .338-.358. That steep shoulder angle on the relatively fat 284 Win case is the problem. A lot easier to collapse that if a fair bit of effort is required during expanding the necks. Regards, Eagleye.

if the above don;t work, blow them out with 4-5 gr of bullseye and half a case of cream off wheat

What's that? Not the Lyman case mouth expander I hope.

Some RCBS "expander buttons" aren't worthy of the name.

Hornady install a very nice elliptically shaped expander ball (button) in all their dies. I'm guessing it would work in one go with once fired or unfired brass - if lubed well. I've bumped up 270Win cases to 35Whelen just to see if it can be done - it can but better options. An intermediate step is sometimes better.

The COW (cream of wheat) method gives me more concentric case necks I believe.
