I just picked up a Remington 760 in .35 Rem. and don't really want to reload for it but will. Does anyone use the factory 200 grn Core lokt ammo and if so how well does it hold up. Specifically if I take a shoulder shot at 20 yards is the bullet going to blow up. I have seen that happen with a 30-30 Winchester Silver Tip. Once with a shoulder shot and once on the deer's breast bone. Deer dropped but meat damage was crazy and chunks of bullet were everywhere. I have 225 grn Nosler Partition but I use them for the Whelen and don't want to use them unless that is the only option. I'd really love to just pick up a box of the Core Lokt but I'm afraid the bullet designed for the .35 Rem is to soft.
 
At the rems velocity you should get a nice wide mushroom. Hornadys gummy tipped bullets will get more more dramatic expansion. Id use the old corelocs for all north american game inside 150 yards
 
Rem Core Lokt dont blow up. 35 Rem is a great round, the Remnngton factory bullets are just fine for anything, and within your up to 200 yd limits, unless you reload and are able to get a tad more speed. great Deer and bear round.
 
I believe the Corelokt is a stouter bullet than the Silvertip, so should be just fine.
I have factory ammo for my new-to-me Marlin in 35 Rem, but have not tried it yet.
I have also picked up some Speer Hot Cor 180 gr FP bullets to develop a load for it. Bullet test performed by others in water jugs have shown very good expansion and weight retention, and my experience with the 220 gr Hot Cor in my 358 Win over the past 15 years has been very satisfactory on elk, moose and bears. The old timer that I have hunted and fished with for the past 20 years used the 220 gr Speer in his 356 Win to harvest his grizzly bear, while I backed him up with my 358. Worked just fine!
This rifle is going to be used mainly as a saddle/camp gun for my wife who is recoil sensitive.
 
I've had good results in bear and deer with the 35 rem 200 gr core locks, they mushroom out and mash up enough to blow a neat hole threw and hold together,

Modern magazine Adverts may tell you otherwise but in the woods, the fact is the Corelokt is deadly for your intended purpose!

Lock n load and enjoy the 35 Rem!
 
I use the 35 Rem in a bolt action and only use handloads, the bullet I use is Hornady 200gr Sptz, I have used that bullet in a half dozen large Saskatchewan whitetail and only recovered one bullet to date, they have all shot through with excellent expansion and good blood trails. I also use the same bullet in a 358WIn.

I use the H200 SP in my .358's as well... killed many, many head of game with excellent results every time. When I had my Marlin .35 Rem, I used the Speer 220 on whitetails, also with good results.

OP, I still shoot Rem Core-Lokt (handloaded) out of a few rifles, they do the trick every time, I would not be concerned.
