250 gr Hornady Interlock---2407 fps
250 Grand Slam------------2384 fps
225 Speer Spitzer----------2412 fps
All were loaded with 52 grains of IMR 4895
The 225 Speer and the 250 Hornady shot a 5 shot cluster of 3/4 inch at 80 yards.:D The 100 yard range was too damn hot to shoot on today...:shotgun:
Thanks to HS4570 for having his chrony at the ready..........

RL15 is THE powder for the Whelen. I get 2680-2700fps with 55gr of RL15 in mine (must be a tight chamber or something) and about 3/4" at 100yds.

Two Powders are outstanding in the Whelen with 225/250 grain bullets. They are Reloder 15 and Vihtavuori N540. Both will give very good velocities, and in my experience also pristine accuracy. My CDL gave 2700+ with the 225 and shot under 1 moa withy either powder. Regards, Eagleye.

Kinda sounds like the rifle I sold Chola! good to see it still shoots like I had it shooting. :D

Were you the guy who did all the epoxy bedding wrong???
There was lots at the forward pressure point and nothing at the chamber.........I had to free float the barrel and bed under the chamber about 1.5 inches.

nope not at all! I only shot 2 boxes of shells out of it then sold it, and it was brand new when I got it. And it shot awesome when I had it.... Still got the target :D also I wouldn't do something I know nothing about.

Congrats on some classic 250 grain loads there. I carried my pump carbine last fall with essentially the same load - a 250@2402MV for moose. Didn't get to shoot one but no doubts it would work well.

Didn't know Speer made a 225 Spitzer (???) - news to me.
