When putting away my handloaded ammo after the moose season, I noticed several scratches on a bullet. At first I thought perhaps these were rifling marks, but I now think the scratches were caused from repeatedly loading the rifle from the magazine. My rifle is a Remington 7600 pump. Twice per day, I loaded the same cartridge from the magazine into the throat and waited for Bullwinkle. Twice per day, I unloaded the same cartridge, detached the magazine and replaced the cartridge in the magazine in my pockefor the next day. This continued for a week, meaning that this cartridge was loaded/unloaded nearly two dozen times. Note that some of the scratches extend to the neck of the cartridge. My load is 250 grn Hornday SP's, seated to the cannelure. Normally, I never see the bullet after loading, usually shooting at the range or at game. Can anyone offer an explanation of my problem or have others had a similar experience with magazine fed 760/0's or 742/7400's? Thanks for any advice.

A bit of a burr or roughness somewhere. Could be happeneing on the way in bumping on feed ramps and mag lips as already suggested.

But don't forget that the way out could cause scratching too - especially with the 7600 ejector. It pulls the loaded round sideways and drags the right side along the inside of the chamber/receiver - until it clears the ejection port and flips out.

In any case it probably does not present a problem. But if you locate the offending rough spot I'd smooth it out.
