3500 for rifle and scope?

Phone remington and see if they will make a 40xb in 300 winch mag. 40xb's are made in single shot and repeater. Delivery date is in the future.....but a 40xb is in a class by itself. I have a number of them. Built a 40xb 308 HB into a 1972 era MAC sniper rifle with Realist 3x9 ART Scope and Mcmillan stock.

A Nightforce scope and a good set of rings will leave you $1500.00 for a rifle. Cheaping out here is a big mistake.

Buy a used Sendero or PSS (you should find one for $1,000.00) and see how it shoots (most shoot very well). If it doesn't shoot to your satisfaction you could screw on a match barrel and still be very close to you original budget.

The HS Sendero (or PSS) stocks are not my favorite, but they work well enough. When you get some more money you can upgrade the stock($600-1000), trigger($350), bottom metal($350-500), or even blueprint the action (I think Guntech does them for ($250.00).

You could buy a Stevens/Savage and save a bit of up front money, but at $3500.00 you are well on your way to a quality rifle. A quality Remington build should hold more resale value...So you get the money back in the long run.

Not to mention you get the satisfaction of owning a quality action that doesn't cycle like a steel trash can! :D

I 'cyber stalked' the cgn 'EE' and picked up my 1st rem 700P 308 with harris bipod and leupold tactical scope for 950.00 shipped........Patience grass hopper;)

700p in 300WM, Shilen trigger, EGW 20 MOA base, TPS rings low, 6-24x40 bushy elite 4200 tactical.

$2400 +/-

From there I would look at spending the rest on truing action, bed & pillar stock and/or better optics if you must. A break would be a good investment too I guess, not sure what a good break would be though.

You could also get some nice reloading equipment and shooting equipment.

Sounds like a decent place to start.
I'd pull the 4200, resell the it, then put a Nightforce on top.

Sendero and P are the same except slight stock variations and finishes. I like the fit of the PSS stock over the Sendero myself.

I handled one of these in SIR. They are sweet and in 308 or 300WM. 3k for just the rifle. Doesn't leave much room for optics.
