I will be casting some heavy stuff soon and never have lubed for smokeless powder loads 1800 -2000fps
I am a old lube sizer type of guy for black powder , I have not used Lee Alox bullet lube but others have
what do you recommend ?

Not sure how well ALOX would stand up to those speeds. I've never pushed it that fast.

If you want to use the lube/sizer look up the Canadian Dragon lube site where he listes different lube sticks for higher velocities. Always been well served there.

You say you lube for black powder. SPG was made for black powder but also works very well for smokeless loads. I have used most of the commercial lubes over the years. Currently using two Lyman lubes their black moly and orange lube. Both work well. I load a 205 gr Lyman cast in my 357 mag and 357 maximum for my contenders. The same bullet I use in my 35 Remington. My hardness is 16 bhn. Bullet number is 358315 205 grs. I have pushed this bullet to just under 1700 fps with no leading using SPG.

perfect that's what I have in my lubesizer and that's what I will be playing with...MGM Encore barrel 20" 357 Max. or for us black powder guys

38 Ballard XL

I use 45/45/10 alox, Johnsons past wax, mineral spirits on all my bullets even the 185 gr Lee’s sized down to .311 which I gas check with Hornady checks and run up to 2250 fps in 308. If the bullets are sized large for the bore I double lube them and I don’t get any leading. I’m also rewarded with excellent accuracy!
