From what I understand, the CAS and semi-wadcutter ammo are both perfectly safe in lever guns, but is this 158 grain flat nose FMJ ammo safe in a tube magazine? Has anyone used it in a lever action?

What about lead round nose ammo: stay away from it?

Thanks in advance.

I've used JSWC a lot in a lever, no problem, but for CAS (at least around here) you have to use cast bullets. No jacket allowed due to jacket shrapnel bouncing back.
Lead round nose is fine as well. You'd have to stick them in a pencil sharpener to worry about primer detonation.

Totally safe. Both the jacketted truncated cone ammo and the LRN. The only thing you need to stay away from are pointed bullets. Even then it's dubious. I think it's more of a lawyer thing.

If shooting .357Mag in the gun I'd suggest sticking with a flat point such as you show for either lead or jacketed. But for actual cowboy shooting the kick from the mild to mid powered .38Spl loads would never be enough to set of a primer in the tube even if you did run them through a pencil sharpener. First off the soft lead would just mushroom and second the recoil using my reloads set up for use in my S&W Model 10 with fixed sights is just a little harder than shooting a Ruger 10/22.

The actual Magnums tend to kick pretty good though. But still, a round nose jacketed bullet is a far cry from the point you find on a .308 boattail bullet. The jacketed round nose is about the same nose radius on the commercial .30-30 ammo I have gotten. So even with the Magnums you would not need to worry about using a round nose.
