I have a Taurus revolver chambered for .357 magnum. What, if any, harm is there to shooting .38 special rounds through it?

Absolutely no problem at all. Just be aware that using 38spl will in time build up residue/lead ring in the cylinder as the 38spl case is slightly shorter than the 357. If you try to use 357 after shooting a bunch of 38 it may be difficult to seat the round in the cylinder. Before shooting 357, just be sure to clean the cylinder thoroughly if u plan on using 38spl a lot.

None. The .38 case is 1/10" shorter than the .357. Otherwise the case dimensions are the same. You will have to clean the cylinders before you go back to .357 though. The shorter cartridge usually leaves a ring of lube gunk in the cylinders. No big deal. It comes right out when you clean the revolver. A .45 calibre bore brush will help a lot when cleaning the cylinders.
If you're reloading, loading .357 brass to .38 Special velocities makes this go away. 2.5 to 2.8 grains of Bullseye with a 148 grain WC has been the standard target load for .38 Special for eons.

I normally will shoot one to two rounds from each cylinder of 357 after I have been plinking with the .38 loads. This helps keep them clean from lead build-up.
