I apologise in advance if this has been answered already - my 'search forum' skills are rather suspect.

Anyhow, I'm looking for a double action revolver in .357 with a 4.2" barrel. What are my options in Canada? S&W 686, Ruger GP100...any others? And which dealers/CGN sponsors carry them? I did see a recent thread saying the Ruger seems to be out of stock everywhere....

Thanks for any advice

Those would be the two I would look at....but almost impossible to find the GP100 at the moment. Too bad, as it is about $300 less than the s&W, and that buys you a fair bit of ammo to practice with! The Ruger is a nice revolver, I love mine. I actually just called Corlanes yesterday to see if they might have one.....they don't. Neither does Bartons, WWS or Primetime here.

Go to P and D in Edmonton. Put money down, order the one you want, 2-3 weeks later your gun is in your hands. How hard can it be. I have the smith 4.2 " 357, and just picked up my ruger super red hawk 44 last week. Good luck, happy shooting. ".............those that don't practice , die.

The only two revolver companies to consider are S&W and Ruger. I have a Smith, and would like to add a Ruger in the future. They are both well made. Ellwood Epps had a bunch of GP100 in 4.2 listed in inventory as of a couple of weeks ago. Check out their site, click on firearms and search by maunfacturer to check what they have. Hope this helps.

Happy wheelgunning.

If you're looking for a blued Ruger 4.2" GP100...I saw one in the showcase yesterday at Target Sports.
Nice looking piece.

What is the Charter Arms bulldog like?

They seem to have a good reputation of being a reliable revolver, but they are a very light weight 5 shooter at 25 ounces. The Ruger GP100 is a hefty 40 ounces. I know I wouldn't want to shoot one very much with full power magnum loads as the recoil will be very snappy.

I consider the CA Bulldogs to be carry/self defense guns as opposed to a target piece.

What are people using in IPSC revolver? I understand the 625 is popular in the US but what about here in Canada?

There is simply only two brands worth considering. S&W and Ruger.

Taurus guns seem to have a decent enough reputation IF you get one which is good out of the box. Otherwise their quality is quite hit or miss from reviews. Up here I gather Freedom Ventures is the new importer and service center so you can at least get it fixed. Not like previously where the Taurus distributor/service center had a reputation as pretty much useless.

When I learned that we could get the Charter Arms guns up here now I did a basic Google for "charter arms revolver review". I saw enough that I'm simply not interested. Do the same and read for yourself and decide.

For IPSC revolver you're almost always alone in your class. So it really doesn't matter what you use. But yeah, something which uses moon clips would be the way to go. That means either an older blued 25, 625 or 610 shooting .40S&W from moonclips.
