Hi all,

I am intrested in trying out IPSC at the local range. Problem is I only have a single handgun a Ruger GP-100 in 357mag. With a new baby funds are tight so I am unable to purchase a new firearm.:( (Wife told me it was ok to buy a holster and I already have three HKS speedloaders:)) I already reload and cast my own lead for the 38/357 and have a ton of brass.

After visiting the Ontario IPSC wesite I downloaded the rules see that the minimun bullet diameter is .354" so I guess the 38/357 is allowed?

Does the handgun used have to be a auto or are revolvers allowed? Does anyone else use a revolver IPSC?

There are still some folks that shoot revolvers in IPSC and it is a lot of fun. 'Revolver Standard' is a separate division for guns that haven't been altered much, there is a list of approved works posted....otherwise you go into Open.
While it isn't going to be the choice of Grandmasters a GP-100 will do plenty fine and is a good way to get you into the sport. You will want at least 6 speedloaders, which are generally not as fast to reload as the guns using full moon clips but if you are just starting out you should be looking at having fun. Don't think you have to get a a really fancy IPSC holster, there are better uses for your $$ and you won't likely gain anything until you start to get really competitive and get really competitive gear.
My $.02
Cheers

I don't recall the IPSC rules exactly, but I think you need to go into open as your revolver (6" barrel right?) will most likely exceed the barrel lengths for revolver standard.

From the IPSC website:

Revolver Standard Division

There was a guy who shot the Alberta Provincials using a revolver. He was in a class by himself.
Not a joke there. He was all alone. Up 'till then, I had never seen anyone use a revolver. From what I gather, it's not very popular.

(E)

Some 5" revolvers also qualify for Production Division. Like any of us would have a snowball's chance in hell against Omen, Stormbringer, Clint or Rob with a 629 Classic

Cheers

I shoot IPSC with a Revoler:eek:get yourself a holster that you can use in IPSC like other said nothing fancy and youll need speedloader holder and maybe few more speedloaders other then that go have fun shooting a real gun :p in IPSC

Thanks for the info.

I plan on buying one of the uncle mikes revolver holsters from wholesale sports ($30ish). Also will get a few more speed loaders and holders. So about how many do I need 6?

A long stage may require 32 rounds. You must shoot at your targets or you'll be penalized. You must hit your targets or you'll be further penalized. You may miss and thus require additional rounds. Stage design may make it advantageous for you to choose to reload out-of-sequence (expelling one or more live cartridges in favour of a full cylinder).

The bottom line? The more speedloaders, the better.
