Any concerns about using a Marlin 1894c in .357 magnum for deer? I wonder how many yards you could accurately shoot with this round, I'm guessing 100-150.

I was thinking of getting this as a backup gun in case I bump my scoped .303

If you hunt bush your futhest shots would be realisticly around 60yrs, which would make it the perfect recipe for deer killin.

I use a 6 7/8 blackhawk up to 50yds with 180 jsp. So yes a rifle will work as long as you do your part. And yes I hunt in the states.

Awesome for deer out 100 yards. If you handload. Most off the shelf ammo, that i know of is loaded for pistol. I used 180 gr nosler partitions over 13 grains of h-110. Worked great!

A .357 hunting bullet from a rifle is quite adequate for deer up to 100 yards in my experience. As other posters have mentioned, handloads with proper hunting bullets should be used. My friend uses a Winchester M94 Trapper in .357 on deer & black bear.

The handloaded .357 Hornaday bullet on the far right in the photo was recovered from a whitetail buck taken last year from about 70 yards. Wasn't a bangflop, but the deer left a firehose blood trail & only ran about 20 yards before collapsing.

I saw a hunting video from Texas, where the hunter used a long barreled revolver in 357. I recall a single shot at about 120 yards and he folded a large bodied buck.

It seems with all the "new and improved" loads and calibers, people have forgotten about what is really needed to do the job. Before the 44mag peolpe were using the 357mag, the 44special and the 45 Colt.

You should get better ballitics with the 357 in the rifle and don't forget about the Hornady Leverolution (spelling). It says it the "knees bees"
