357 magnum rounds without a bullet?

Hello,
My friend,who was a longtime member on here, passed away 2 months ago and his wife has asked me to make a few rounds of 357 to fire his ashes off
What or how is the best way to do this?

Maybe a thin cardboard wad, sealed with some paraffin?

BTW, this seems to be a fitting send-off for a gunny.

Sorry, but I’ve never heard the term gas check roll crimp.

Yes we think so, he done some smithing so we’re doing one in his work/relax area and one the range.
 
His name was Gary Elliot, he was a long time member . I think that was his user name as well.

He was more into reloading/gunsmithing and perusing than posting.. lol

Gary was a licensed Gunsmith and verifier, revolvers were his thing.

He had a 12-6 ,so I was always on the lookout for cheap Colt prohib, for rebarrel.
Could never find the right Colt as I wanted either a python or an SAA..
 
What about the capsules/cups or whatever they're called for making shotshell loads? I've never used them or seen them for that matter.

I have fireformed cases using black powder with cream of wheat over top sealing with wax at the end with no issues. I imagine you could do the same either removing the cream of wheat or adding only a bit at the end before adding the wax.
 
The plastic shotshell capsules would hold a more useful amount of ashes. Use a little bit of very fast powder, like Bullseye or TiteGroup.

You could use the technique I use for fireforming. I would do a small amount of fast powder, tamp down a small amount of toilet paper on the powder to hold it in place. Next I would add cream of wheat close to the top of the case. In your case you would add the ashes. I then simply use a cheap bar of soap to twist onto the case and act as a cap. You could use wax or an over card with a bit of Elmers glue on top but the soap is simple and cheap.

These capsules will maximize the payload. Since the ashes are light, you need a fast powder. Bullseye, or the powder from some 22 LR rounds. Experiment a bit with some fireplace ashes to get the right charge.

I cannot find any in my loading room...

45C - I have never tried what you propose - however, we did spread ashes from a couple members of my wife's family - my recollection - it will take dozens of 357 rounds to take care of all the ashes - not certain if that was your intent or not - I thought I would mention, in case you were under impression that a "few" rounds would dispose of all the ashes ...
 
What to do with the ashes of a loved one?

I plant a tree, with the ashes mixed in the root ball.

There are trees here on the farm with the ashes of mom, dad and a favourite dog,

When I walk by the tree, I sometimes stop and talk to them. Some of their molecules are in full bloom.
 
Hey guys , thanks for all the helpful info.

I’m still waiting on his wife to be ready , it was her request so I’ll do it for her when she’s ready.

She still hasn’t gone down to his gun room yet, but I think she may be ready soon.

We’re only gonna make a couple of rounds, to shoot at his favorite spots.
