I own a Ruger Redhawk in .357, so I'm not too worried about hurting the gun, it's really over-built. So far I've been following my manual when loading Max loads with 2400 powder. I'm using 140gr. jacketed bullets, and my manual states the MAX load for this setup is 16.5gr. I've slowly worked my way up to 16.4gr and the gun seems to have no problem handling them, recoil is about the same as 12.5gr of powder with the only difference being the massive muzzle flash the max loads produce.
Now to make a long story short, I was wondering if it were possible to go beyond this "MAX" point my manual (Lyman "48th Edition Reloading Handbook) states? Can I slowly work my way past 16.5gr of powder? And if so, are there any signs that can tell you when you have hit the absolute MAX of your firearm? Of course safety is my number one priority, so I thought I would see what others have to say on the matter before I even think about loading past MAX, and in my case I've always loaded 0.1 of a grain lower.....
