I have a single shot HG in 357 Max calibre(coming in the mail). I have 100 brass for this calibre and I hope to reload it down to at least 357 Mag, even 38 Special if possible. I want to use the 357 Max brass in the gun as a ridge is formed if the shorter brass is used and due to the length difference I'm concerned about accuracy. I do not like big bangs so the 357 Max isn't a thing for me. I just wanted this gun.

If I had 38 special loads in the 357 Max brass would it fire reliable?

Thanks.

Yes, download using the long brass.

That will leave a lot of empty space in the case. Some powders are sensitive to this issue, causing accuracy problems.

If you want 38Spl type loads, I would try the 148 gr wadcutter bullet. Seated flush, it would use up a lot of powder space. I would try Universal or Unique.

I would suggest trail boss powder with a cast bullet 150 to 158gr go to the hodgdon powder site for instructions on how to load this powder good luck

I had a T/C Contender in 357 Max (10" barrel) and I was getting 2000fps with 158gr. What a powerhouse. Smacked gongs real good :)
