.357's, for tripping the trigger, heavier is better. A good .357 load can be quite snappy, and a long string of rounds quite unpleasant. As well, gun mass speeds the return to target time. But, any gun, weight discourages the presence of the gun at the time of the shot. Figure it out. Best bet, take the time to go to a rental range and let her try it.

I'd try to find a M-19, and if you have prohib status I'd get one in 4". Nice sized gun for a woman, heavy enough to reduce the felt recoil, not that she would need full powered loads anyway. I used to load 5.5 grs of Unique in .38 brass, behind 160 gr. Hornady TCFMJ bullets and found it quite accurate. If this proved to be too much recoil, you could try 125 gr. bullets. Another nice sized .357 was the Ruger Security Six. A single action has a smaller grip yet, and handles recoil in a much friendlier way.
