I have been checking for powder choices for the 358 winchester, trying to decide what to use. The Hodgdon manual says that Varget provides the best velocities with all bullets weights. I will be loading 225 grain partitions for my BLR, so does anyone have any experience loading for this combo? Or any other powder for that matter? I have Varget, IMR 4064 and H4831SC on hand, but I can get something else as I have to get some powder for 22 Hornet aswell. What's the best to use?

Hello,
My 358 Win(Browning BLR) likes the Sierra 225 gr BT with an appropriate charge of IMR 4895 and measured velocity is 2550 fps +/-
The first 3 shots measure about 1.25" center to center.
This load has accounted for a number of one shot kills on Moose at ranges up to 250 yds.
Good Luck
John

My 358Win M70 likes IMR4320, IMR4064 and IMR3031 with the 200 Hornady Sptz or the Sierra 225 SBT. Ironically they are all IMR powders but I have also had decent results with H322, W748, RL-7 and H-335. Most medium powders will work well with these calibers. Try a few but don't switch bullets around until you find the powder it likes best.

My Model 88 likes 46.5gr of IMR4064 behind 200gr Hornady SP's.

This load easily and consistently produces 1" (or less) groups. Now I just need to find a deer to test it on...
