Hey guys,

I am looking at a .35 cal of some kind, just having some doubts as to which .35 would serve me best.

I am looking for that "everything" gun. Varmints to Grizz defense. ;) ;)

The rifle needs to have a detachable mag (Hi Cap would be nice) and be a bolt action. CRF would be nice but now I'm asking alot.

I have a 7mm RM and I load 160 Accubonds to 2950fps in a 6.5 pound package. I don't want to exceed that level of recoil. Actually, more force is probably fine if it is at a slower velocity.

SO... I would like decent velocities using light pistol bullets for varminting (3000+ fps)
AND...
The ability to handle both 225gr TSX Bullets (Long) and up to 310 woodleighs
(I will most likely end up casting heavy bullets for this cartridge tho)

Oh yeah, I want it to be cheap to build and load for.

Please share your thoughts...

might be tough to find a barrel that will digest all of those options.

1-12 twist should handle all that in .358win and whelen AI, might get away with 1-14 in the sambar.

I would most likely have to use 140-158grn pistol bullets though.

I could be wrong.

The detachable mag requirement really limits your options...detachable mags for short mags are not really common. You have Tikka T3's, Sako 85's and Brownings, A-Bolt or X-Bolt....I've done the 350 Rem Mag on Model Sevens and short 700's...but no detachables in Remingtons for short mags. A rifle built for any of the SAUM's or WSM's is a simple rebarrel away from a 350 Mag.

X2! Its a good one :agree:

If you build it in a standard 8-8.5 pound package recoil will have more push and less jab...If that makes sense?

I think so. Standard .532" magnum bolt face, works in a standard long action and serious thump when loaded up. Commercially available brass is a nice extra, compared to wildcatting and forming brass, too.
