How come some mfgr's offer 35mm tube rifle scopes and others offer em in 34mm. Is there really a 1mm difference or does the industry simply have two ways of saying the same thing ? Just curious.

I didn't even know there WERE 35 mm tubes.

Frankly - i don't quite understand what much more than 30 mm would give you.., there's only so much light that your eye can suck up. but then, i don't usually use anything bigger than a 50 mm objective and even that's 'big' for me.

Big, bigger, biggest.

34mm was a Schmidt and Bender tube size that was introduce in response to USO 35mm scopes..

USO built tubes in 30, 35, and 40mm. Larger tubes allowed for more erector travel as suggested and also a heavier basic structure. Because of the specification for government contracts, USO now builds the 34mm for the side focus "Canadian" scope only.

If USO wasn't available here in the USO I would be using S&B scopes. They are reportedly excellent, although recent appreciation of the Euro has caused them to be made of "unobtainium". :D
