You may wish to investigate HOW those Swede 96 were converted to 30-06. I have a STIGA brand 30-06 here - likely made from similar receiver - most likely from an m94 receiver, but I do not know how to tell the difference among m38, m96 and m94 receivers, except by the serial number. The Swede m96, m94, m38 were all built around the 6.5x55 round, which is SHORTER than the 30-06 - so first, the magazine has to be extended to be longer - a couple ways to do that. Then, some material is removed from behind the lower bolt lug support area, to make a new feed ramp, so that the action can actually handle standard 30-06 length cartridges. In STIGA's case, the result was then "proof tested" to verify that what remained was strong enough to withstand standard 30-06 ammo - I have no qualms about firing standard 30-06 in that rifle, at all - but is not the sort of rifle to attempt to "push limits" when hand loading - I think. That receiver will be more closely related to the 1893 version of receiver, than it is to the 1898 version, although made of Swedish iron ore - probably.
