Here's something I have had kicking around for a while and wanted to post a few pictures to see if anyone has ever seen something like this before? I got two of these at a yard sale years ago and being a collector of 37 web pattern stuff, have never seen one like it before. I have a couple 37 web pattern collector books and there is nothing like this chair in them.

I am thinking that they were made for officers to sit on? Anyone have any input?

I don't think there are any markings on this chair for some reason, but will have another look and get back to you. I think the buckle denotes it being 37 web pattern?

These camp chairs were pretty common on the market here at one time, though they seem to have dried up now. The canvas gradually tore out of the tacks on mine, and I eventually threw it out as I couldn't see myself sewing a new one.

Just a point... not everything made of webbing material during WW2 is part of the pattern 37 equipment set which is why you won't find it in a pattern 37 reference.... it's not pattern 37 related. As to whether or not it is WW2 or even military issue, I don't know as I've never seen one in my 20 years of collecting. While the materials and fittings look like issue type materials it could just as well be post war made right up to the 60's and could be Canadian or British in origin. It's an interesting item that could logically be a part of a command post set up in the field along with folding tables and other typical office type equipment necessary to run a headquarters while deployed.

I had one like that that was a gift from a FOO attached to 1 Can Para in 1945. He also gave me a folding bathtub!

Thanks for that and that may explain why there are no markings on it of any kind, unless there might have been markings on the canvas that has faded over the years. On the other hand, Yank has stated he had one during the war, would like to see that folding bathtub!

I had something very similar when I was a kid.Basically the same as this one except the frame was steel tube and there was a snap button instead of a buckle to hold the unit together when folded. It was marked but the only mark I can remember was a broad arrow(British).

The set came in a valise that wrapped it all up together. I wish I still had it but sold it and a huge pile of other stuff to Wayne Klein about 1986 to make my wife happy. Now the pile of stuff and the wife are gone, live and learn.
