I just picked up a flat base 249 gr mould as I wanted to try some reduced recoil rounds in my 375 H&H. I have done some casting for pistol but this will be my first attempt for rifle.

I have three questions though

1) Where can I get a nose punch and sizer die for my RCBS Lube-A-Matic?

2) The mould is for a flat base bullet. I am thinking of a load in the 1700 fps range. Do I need a gas check?

3) I have two Lyman manuals with cast load data and was thinking of going with IMR 3031 or maybe Red Dot. Does anyone have a favourite load for the 249 gr cast bullet?
Thanks for all and any advice Jed

Think I may have that mould also, lee round / flat , its a FB, so no can dooey the GC, I size with lee sizer in my loading press, and tumble alox lube for prep, then final lube at loading by hand, with stick alox. Size to .378 dia , and use it in 375 H&H , my first loads were with 2400 , but their are far better powder choices out there.

jed to go 1700 isn't that bad use a little harder mix to cast a harder bullet or drop the bullets made from WW into water to make them harder.
Second make sure that you use a really good lube and you will be alright.
Ken.
