Can anyone suggest a rifle manufacturer that makes a good .375H&H? I've had a look at the Remington 700 XCR, but I've also read a few posts that don't speak highly of some Remington models.

I like the CZ/BRNO for it's "safari" looks and sub $1000 Price Tag.

I like the Winchester Safari model because it is so damn ###y.

I have a Sako 75SS in .375 and it is finest machining I have ever seen on a rifle. but the tupperware stock doesn't impress me.

Nothing wrong with the XCR as its a Model 700, the bad news Remington is the model 710 and its not chambered in 375.
Mine is a Remington BDL SS, very accurate and comfortable to shoot.

I had 3 Brnos that were excellent. A Browning safari that was superb and a Sako that I didn't like at all. Before all Sako owners start screeching, it was the only Sako that I didn't care for, and I've owned more than my share of em. I never was a fan of the model 70. Just me. Love those Rugers and Weatherbys though!

I have owned at least half a dozen 375s over the years in different makes and models.

The one I still have and hunt with every year is an old SAKO L61R.

Ted, I have one of those as well...the only complaint I have is the severely swept bolt handle. Damn thing raps the knuckle on my index finger every chance it gets! I'm really considering having it straightened, even though that's almost sacriligious....do you have any trouble that way?

Oh ----a cz-550 is a fine rifle.I would also love a belgium browning safari in one,my father has two.My good friend has a sako in 375 and is very nice, light but nice.!!! I like almost everything about my cz.Kicks alot less than the sako!Awesome caliber.have taken mule deer, whitetail deer, moose and black bear with mine in 2 years.Shoots awful flat with the 260 accubonds too!

I have owned a Sako Deluxe in 375 and it was nice but kicked hard and I was always scared of getting a scratch on it. I own a CZ 550 now in 375 and I would not part with it. It is more accurate than the Sako and kicks less too. I also like the set trigger and the 5 round capacity is impressive. Do some research on the net particularly a site I believe called African Hunter.com. They have a 3 part articile on dangerous game rifles, and the CZ 550 pretty much comes out on top. This helped me make the decision on which to buy.

Hi
I've owned three rifles in this chamber and to be honest thus far I've liked my Winchester safari the best. What some people don't know about the safari is that the bolt comes with a gas shield installed just like model 98 mausers (at least mine does). What I consider to be a problem with all winchesters is that they generally do not have any mechanism to prevent (in case of a case rupture) escaping gases to come shooting out the end of the bolt straight into your face. A major design flaw in my opinion. Thats why a gas shield is so important.

This little girl was made in 1964 (yes the first year of the design alteration). I have also found that winchester triggers are very simple and easy to adjust by simply tightening or loosening the spring which is held in place by a double lock nutt.

In addition this particular Safari Magnum has an internal box capacity of 5 rounds. I believe you will find that most production models these days max out at three rounds.

I would also like to point out that post 64 actions are stronger than the pre 64 actions and should be seriously considered in my opinion. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with post 64 winchester model 70's. Controlled Feed is nice but not as important as everybody seems to think it is. They also have a very impressive claw extractor muck like a mauser action which makes cycling ammunition quite reliable.

It is also quite easy to find winchester model 70 parts and components to customize your rifle if the desire suits you (ie williams or lyman peep sights bolt right on). A used post 64 Model 70 safari Magnum in excellent condition (like the pics below) will go in the price range of $700 to $900.

Note: The front sight protector actually came off a model 98 military mauser. It fit perfectly.

As for the other models out there they are all quite nice. As for the CZ 550 Magnum models they are quite nice but I really do not like the single set trigger. I love the mauser action but single set triggers to not belong on a rifle designed to take out potentially dangerous game (my opinion). I believe in design simplicity. If you're thinking of going with CZ then I recommend you seriously consider the model 602 action instead.

I happen to believe controlled round feed is very important if being used on game that can fight back.I have jammed push feeds on two different occasions by short stroking the bolt.Would not happen on my cz.And I like the cz trigger as well. You can disable the set feature if you want,I happen to like it for range work. And when your buddy thinks he has a light trigger you can show him what one really is!!!

I've never seen a push feed jam (not to say that you haven't).

Regarding winchester 70's one thing I forgot to comment on is that pre 64 actions have a forcing cone where-as the post 64 models don't really which in my opinion is kind of important.

Oh well can't have everything.

Don't get me wrong I think the CZ-550 is a lovely lovely rifle and a great deal for the price.

winchester model 70 classic (crf) SS 375 H&H . This is the perfect 375 for myself , I tried the 602 (i like folding leafs) but liked the feel of the Winchester more (they both made me smile but it is a ford chevy thing when it comes to those two) and i love winchester triggers :D

I never noticed, until you mentioned it. It actually isn't swept that far back on mine.
