Well, Finally got around to firing my ruger #1-H Tropical .375 H&H earlier today. Moose season is approaching and I had yet to fire it. Never did any "sighting in" yet, just test fired a few shots at a couple random targets to get to know the recoil and actions of the rifle. I gotta say, recoil isn't all that bad:cool:
I was shooting Factory Remington Core-Lokt SP's in 270. This is my biggest caliber besides my '06's. I compare the "action" of the recoil to a .30-06, just a little more "pushy" and stout. But, then again, it's kinda like a bigger brother to the '06, with that load being almost identical in velocity and trajectory, besides the higher ft/lbs. I don't think it will take much to sight in...

With just the factory irons.. today, while shooting offhand at approx..100 yards..I managed to hit a 1'X1' board with the first 3 shots...(straight from factory) and upon inspection, 3 of those shots you could have covered with a grapefruit. Not too bad in my opinion..now, to get to the range and get an offical sight-in.

Thanks guys!! and yeah, I feel lucky to have finally found a few moments to try'er out:D. Just need a good range session to really line things up and be certain of where it's hitting. I'll be hunting mostly thick woods, so I may just sight for 100, possibly 200 though, since i'm used to '06 trajectories.

In all honesty, I thought it would be more of a kicker...even though they were only factory loaded rounds. But with an aftermarket limbsaver or decelerator added (which I may), I can't see it being much different than a "normal" weight '06. ( this H&H currently weigh's in at 9 1/4lbs). This is a pic of the rifle when I got it home from Prophet River. It currently wears a nice leather sling as well, and I need to find a leather cartridge holder for the buttstock. :confused:or make one...

The Remington 300 grain A-Frames and the Hornady 300 grain DGX's shoot virtually the same in my 375, try 'em out if you're looking for something with a bit more punch.
