I found this while surfing on 24 hour campfire.

The .375 Ruger features a standard magnum bolt face, is reported as being the smoothest feeding magnum to date and will be available in 270-gr. SP, 300-gr. IB and 300-gr. FMJ. The round has been field tested by Craig Boddington in Africa with great success. Boddington killed a hippo and two buffalo with the round. Look for a future in-depth review in a Primedia publication.

The cartrige is basically a 338 win mag necked up to 375 and no belt. Expected release is sometime in 2007.

The reason to bring out a new cartridge is to boost sales, and undoubtedly this cartridge will sell. It will be chambered in affordable rifles with '06 length actions, but I question what the .375 Hornady would do that the .376 Styer could not. Of course this observation has little merit - I don't have enough fingers to count how many .300 magnums exist.

Word is that it will be closer to the Dakota in case capacity than the Steyr... you guys can be bored all you like... go fondle your enfield.:(
If you are not interested why post?
Anything new is good ... for the industry... for the market... and for the sport!

So BR, let me get this straight ........ You are saying it is OK to have a discussion as long as everyone agrees with everyone else. No criticism or opposing opinions allowed. Have I got it right?

Gimme a bwake.

should be a great cartridge, limited in *needed* use in Canada, but should be a real stomper.

if I had one, Id load it down to H&H speeds, and enjoy low pressure loads. same as if I had a 375 H&H Ackley or 375 Ultra. :)

I shoot a 375H&H and don't see myself changing any time soon. To make things very boring I think it takes either a big step up in speed or bore size to see much of a difference on game. Todd Bartell said it well in one of his sig lines: Placement, Bullet Quality, Caliber in that order (or something like that :)) It really makes all the this caliber vs that caliber debate almost pointless when similar rounds are being compared.

Having said that, I think Hornady will have a winner with this one. I've always liked the 375 Taylor idea but with a H&H in the safe again, I have no need.

Ruger has watched sales of their safari rifles (#1 and 77 in african calibres) boom in the last decade. I think they've identified the 'aspirational safari hunter' as their market with this one, not the guy who's already got an H&H or a Rigby.

If the rifles are cheaper than the #1 tropical or the 77 safari, then they'll have a winner.

You got that right
As for the .375...I'm in...ball deep:cool:
Are you missing something......?
 ;)

Why doesn't ruger slap some rifled barrels on one of thier side by side shotguns.......I'd be in for that !
Or better yet.....Morph the Number 1 into a double of sorts...then they'd really have the African Hunters Crooning.
They could call it the Number 2 !

You mean this cartridge is touted to be faster than the .375 H&H w/ equivalent bullet weights?
