Hi guys

I am going to work on a reduced load for my 375 Ruger to try and stick in a bear this spring.
I have a slew of 235g Speer hot core
I have a bit of H4895 on hand. But not a ton and it’s hard to find at the moment.

What are you thoughts on IMR4198 or IMR3031?

Im looking to drive them about 2400-2500fps

Maybe recommend a different powder.

Thanks in advance

Tagged, funny I was just thinking about the same question.

Hahah. Great minds think alike?
I have a 235g tsx load @ 2825fps taken 3 bear with it.
But I think a Speer HC at that speed is going to wreck some meat or the bullet won’t hold together (online reports are hit or miss)

I load 235gr Speer over 69.5grs H4895 in my 375 Ruger, velocity is 2530 fps and it shoots well

If you really want to tame it down (not for hunting), try 24.5grs Trail Boss, it does 1500 fps

I have yet to find the Ruger Alaskan I am wanting unfortunately. Given the jam of the .375 reduced loads came to mind pretty quickly. I don't think the deer in my backyard need a hole you can put your arm through haha. The longer shots I typically have to take on elk and moose will be made with more confidence though. Excellent cartridge all things considered, I am excited.

Why reduced loads. Just load normally and use that ,

Geez. Why didn’t I think of that?

A 235g speer @2800+ fps is going to wreck meat and probably not hold together well.

I have a few full power loads for this rifle.
They have been very successful on game.
But I want to try something different.
Need more of a reason?

I got some rounds loaded
IMR4198
CCI 250 mag
Speer 235 @ 3.325” col
54.0g to 61.0g in 1/2g increments

Was hoping to shoot today. But it’s snowing pretty good and I probably won’t get readings on the Chrono. So I’ll have to delay

Stay tuned.
