.379 cast OK for 375win?

hey I see a Aussie company has changed owner an what not, the new product list doesn't have 375 cast pills, only 38 55 its under and at 379... 38-55 245gn Round Nose Flat Point BB .379

uhm, will these work with my 375bb ?

and I guess whats the go with 311 in my 303 #1? I know internet states all different bore sizes but ive loaded 150gr sierras an shot various factory 150-180gr ammo and even loaded 208 hornady 3030 pills, this lists 180gr flat noses at 311.... will they be all good yeah, slowed down with 2208 VARGET I guess??

I see no issues. Start your loads low, keep an eye on any pressure signs, and work up. This Woodleigh bullets? - dan

For a 303, you would probably get better results with a .314" cast bullet.

I thought the 375 Win ( Lever gun) is basically the same as the old 38-55 from early in the LAST century. If so then it's made to shoot cast. The 38-55 was a great target chambering. Slug the barrel to see what the groove diameter is, then start about .001-.002 OVER that. Should be a good shooter. My better 303 loads used anywhere from .313-.314 cast bullets.

The .375 Winchester bores that I slugged were .375 to .376 range. This was not a large sample size.

Generally speaking, with cast bullets, as long as it chambers it will probably be fine.

375 a win is generally 375-376, 38-55 is usually 377-379. - dan

yeh the 375 winnie was designed for jacketed stuff, mines an old one but with Hawksbury river cast bullet from Sydney area, they used to coat 3 different coatings for hardness.... I have around 250 of these left. but will have to email regarding their new product list an see for closer to 375...

I download a little, 1800-1900 fps , works good for me, shot some sambar with it.

If the supply really has dried up and 379 aren't going to work you could buy a Lee push through sizer for the size you want.

As mentioned, slug your bore and aim for a thou or 2 larger but often 3 to 4 thou will work fine if they chamber.

I tried loading 38-55 with Lee 375 Winchester dies and it wasn't working because the larger bullets hung up on the crimp ring in the seating die. That suggests to me that you might well have to size down the bullets but every chamber is different and you won't know until you try.

hey mate I havnt in the Big Bore Lever gun, but few mates do on sambar lol. I have shot them out of a 375 hh on buff
