.38 S&W disappear on the EE or am I hallucinating again!?

Did anyone else see this pistol for sale last night for $220? I jumped on it and now the WTS ad is gone and I have had no reply. I also know I was the first to view and respond. So what gives here, this is the third time I've responded to an ad only to have the seller apparently change his mind. I'll try not to sound like a whinner but this is just weird. I believe it ought to be an infraction that carries with it exclusion from the EE, both buying and selling.
If you don't have your sh1t together enough to make a decision and stand by it, you should not be able to deal...period. Rant over, but this is Bullsh1t. If I had his name it would be on my ignore list.
The same can be said of someone who says "I'll take it" and then backs out with no valid reason. I say ban them from the EE, 'K... NOW my Rant is over!

Ya, I have seen that too. No views, BUT it's gone by the time you type in "I'll take it".

My take, is that the Mods get those jems before we poor folk have a chance and remove the post.

Not to sure but I think people probably post the stuff their selling on a few sites/venues and they may have sold it there first. Also maybe they sold it to a buddy right after they put it up. Not defending it in any way just offering POSSIBLE explanations. As for people saying they will buy it for sure and backing out thats a little shady for sure. Either way I can see how it would annoy you but what can you do I guess.
 
Happened to me awhile back on a G19 LNIB for $500 out of Quebec, few weeks later the guy who got it was posting it was lost in the mail. Price seemed too good to be true and out of Quebec no less, even though it appeared in the thread that it was all worked out between buyer and seller, it still smelled funny. Sometimes missing out can be a blessing in disguise.
 
This one is not right. I sent the fellow a PM about it, as you say he never responded to me either. The fishy thing that should be found out here is that I just went to my sent PM's to get his user name and the message I sent has been removed from my sent PM's and I did not remove it, so what is going on here?

Maybe if we find the right mod we might be able to find out what is going on, but I doubt we will ever really know what happened.

How do you not have his name? Should be a copy of your sent PM in your Sent file.

As I stated earlier, this is exactly the same as what happened to me. I would really appreciate if a mod would chip in here and explain this to me. The only way I can think is that this happened is that a mod is involved in this and everybody who sent a PM to the guy selling this gun has had there PM's about it cleared out so we cannot trace this guy. What does everyone else think?

I have had bunches of people complain that PMs are not reliable, not delivered, etc. Like email, most of mine appear to arrive. I know they got sent because there's a copy in my "sent" folder.

If there is no copy of the PM, you know that the system didn't send your message, but ate it instead! Nom nom nom. Burp. Grin.

The 15 minute view counter refresh explains a lot. Now we just need someone to explain why PMs get eaten instead of sent. There is no moderator deleting your sent message. Your message simply never got sent, so it never wound up in your "sent messages" folder. Didn't happen, offer never arrived. Some other guy got your deal. No dark conspiracy, just good old honest failure.

You know that some sellers don't reply even if they do get your message, probably because the large number of offers has shown them they just made a very stupid mistake in pricing. Most people who make stupid mistakes don't sit there with their head up, shoulders back, proudly replying. They hide and try to pretend it didn't happen. A lack of response is usually a mistake of one kind or another. Either the system failed to function (check your sent folder) or the wolves that raised the seller failed to instill even modest social skills. And no pricing skills at all!

It was posted on June 20, 2013 at 6:57 pm Pacific time. The OP edited the ad to "Pls Remove" on June 21, 2013 at 07:22 am Pacific time.

So the ad was "up" for ~ 1/2 day. Once an ad is edited by the OP to "Pls Remove" the ads are soft deleted from the EE by mods.

Even so "soft deleted", as a mod, I can still "see" the ad on the page it was posted on & all edits, times etc.

I would say, at that price, likely there was a long list of potential buyers. [BTW, I was not one of them].

At his discretion, an OP may or may not respond to all that sent a PM.

And of course, he is free to sell his item to whomever he chooses to as well.

The above hi-lighted comment surely must've been made in jest otherwise it's so far off base it's incredible.

Mods only "remove" EE posts that have been edited by the OP for removal [ie. 'Pls Remove'] or ones that don't follow the EE rules.

Period.
