Hello all

I am reading up a little on .38 S&w and I am seeing I can interchange the .380 cartridge or use the .380 in a .38 s&w.
Is this true?

Thanks

Yes. Major difference is in the bullets. .380 revolver is loaded with a 178gr jacketed bullet, .38 S&W with 146gr lead.
Most of these revolvers have fixed sights, and the different bullets weights will affect point of impact relative to point of aim.

The .380 was originally loaded with a 200gr lead bullet; there was a similar load for the S&W.

No.

.380acp is a 9mm short, the bullet is the same diameter as 9mm......356. Just a lot lighter in weight.

38S&W diameter is .361, not even close to .380 @ .356. .380acp cartridges are rimless and typically chambered in auto pistols. The British inspired 380-200 or the 38S&W is a rimmed revolver cartridge.

Not interchangeable at all. Don't get me started on the big mistake of the 38S&W fiasco!

Yes the 380/200 is just a heavy 38 S&W and is perfectly safe to shoot in solid frame guns like a S&W victory or the break action Webley's.

I have a 1942 S&W victory and shot many 380/200 rounds through it. It's fine.

Cheers
Moe
