No you can't, or at least its not a very good idea. You can use 9mm cases loaded to 38S&W specifications but still not a good idea. Have to use a pencil to pop out the cases. Really bad idea if you also have a 9mm you are reloading for.
.38 S&W isn't a shortened .38 Special. Case body is bigger for one. Rim thickness is different too. That can be fixed with a lathe, of course, but it's not just trimming.
In any case, you can order it through your local gun shop.
Had the same problem with finding any decent amounts of 38 s&w. Bought new brass , casted my own boolits, re loaded and now have enough to satisfy my ammo hoarding addiction !Evil LOL
I trimmed about 100 .38Spl cases and loaded them with .358 158g SWC. Some cases developed a slight bulge ahead of the web, thicker cases wouldn't chamber due to seating depth of bullet. However, 65-70% worked just fine.
Then I aquired a few hundred .38S&W cases at a gun show. Now I don't use .38Spl trimmed down cases.
at gun shows there always seems to be a few boxes of 38 s&w floating around. At the last gun show I bought brass from a couple of different tables that i will load at some point. Reloading is easiest.
I am quite sure I have a new box laying around somewhere that is superfluous to my needs (I don't have a 38S&W revolver)... If I can only locate it, I'd sell it to someone who needs it.
Sail in Vaughn still has lots, I just got 5 boxes, and have 500 pieces of brass at home, not super hard to find the brass or bullets, I am going to try the 200 gr bullets to reload!
